Mission Statement
The purpose of this website is to show how a career with a sports management degree is very different from other careers. I will primarily be focusing on what it takes to be a sports agent and the skills necessary to succeed in this career. First and foremost, time management is essential to being a good agent. When working as an agent, time management is important because not only are you balancing your own schedule but also your client’s schedule. Rather than the typical 9 to 5 job hours, agents are usually operating on a tight schedule and long hours are not uncommon due to working around their athletes’ schedules. Secondly, agents need to have more outgoing personalities since they are always meeting new people. Typically, sports agents are traveling across the country meeting with potential new clients, current clients, different sports organizations, or companies that could lead to potential brand deals for the athletes. Lastly, agents have to be comfortable traveling, since they are always on the go. Agents are always going to meetings, games, and events with their clients, so they are constantly traveling around the country. In order to have a successful career in this field these three qualities are germane to your success.
